a.k.a Subliminal ‘Trainthought’ (MCJB Entertainment)

All the way from Canada comes this fantastic organic Hip-Hop and Neo Soul album from a.k.a Subliminal. Seventeen tracks deep, it features some great production and great song concepts from a rapper and recording artist that is so blatantly talented it’s untrue. In fact, calling him a rapper and recording artist doesn’t really do him justice as he also acts, mentors kids at schools and community projects, as well as producer, engineer and play all his own riffs and melodies. The album oozes with lush soulful jazzy vibes reminding me of actually how much I do love the organic Hip-Hop sound. From the opening track ‘It’s Like That’ I was hooked with its J.Dilla-esque beat and a wonderful a.ka Subliminal flow! Other highlights on the album include the massive collaboration with Rah Digga from Busta’s Flipmode Squad entitled ‘I Ain’t Goin Nowhere’ as well as my personal favourite ‘I Don’t Know’. The album is testament to a new artist that is a step above your average Stateside rapper. He has substance, he has massive amounts of talents and I love his music. The fact that he is coming to the UK in July makes it even better as I think people really need to get up on this act. a.k.a Subliminal has arrived and showed the world that there’s more to Canada than Drake and Belly. Good quality music delivered with style and finesse.
